Bob Bloom : Spiritual Being Having A Human Adve Practical, Progessive Spirituality

Practical, Progessive Spirituality

Posted on May 18th, 2008 by Bob Bloom : Spiritual Being Having A Human Adve Bob Bloom

It's wonderful to have found this site.  Wow!  What do you know.  Tens of thousands of people that recognize we must "Be the change we wish to see in the world" if we are to make the difference we hope to see.

My own chosen path of making a difference is as an author, speaker and teacher of practical and pragmatic spiritual principles.  I'm not much of a fan of the esoteric.  I want something I can implement in my daily life that makes it happier, more joyful and fulfilling.   And hopefully, I'll have something to share with you that you will find useful, inspiring or empowering; or perhaps even better ...all three at once!

I couldn't speak or write on this subject with any authority or truthfulness a few years back.  That's because I was neither happy nor at peace.  I spent many years wandering this planet in a depressed funk.  When I looked out at the world, I didn't like what I saw.  Even more to the point, though ...I didn't like the view when I looked within either.  That all began to change, however, in 1996.

The first step towards that change came when I got fired from my job.  It was a job I was good at, it paid the bills, but in so doing it stole from my spirit and that just wouldn't do.  I had to make a change.  But to what, I wondered?  I didn't have a clue.  No worries, I said.  I'm going to create work and a life that I'll love even if it's the last thing I ever do!  Thus I set sail.  I didn't have a clue, or any idea how to do it but this was a beautiful beginning.

By the end of 1996, I still had no clear idea of how to manifest this in my life but I had identified three things that it had to include.  First, it had to be creative.  Second, it had to give me the opportunity to work with lots of different people.  And lastly, it had to make the world a better place.  This was all I knew at that time, or so I thought.

Something else happened at the end of that holiday season in 1996.  I finally did what I'd been putting off for years; I surrendered my life to Spirit and said, "Show me!"  I wanted to know what was possible.  I wanted to know what was real.  I said, "Go ahead and blow me up if you will.  I don't care.  I'm done being afraid!  I have to know what's possible."

In the ten years that followed, Spirit put me through the paces and slowly, but surely, I began to hear.  It wasn't easy at first.  I was holding on to a bunch of ideas that didn't work.  Like the idea that we have to prove our value by doing something special or accomplishing something great.  What a crock of crap that one is.  All that that one leads to is stress, worry and self-doubt, except for those rare times when we are good enough, disciplined enough or lucky enough to accomplish something great.  The trouble is that the happiness derived from such accomplishments is short lived; it fades over time.

A more accurate, and more powerful idea is to believe that every single human being has been born for a reason, with a purpose and is equipped with the intrinsic qualities (values) to be successful.  The trick is to reveal these values and then to nurture, develop and share them with all those who will benefit.  This is the sure path to success.

As a culture we adhere to many such myths and that is the focus of my work; I'm a myth buster.  The ultimate myth, of course, is the myth of separation.  That's the idea that we're separate selves, separate from our source and separate from each other.  This myth is also the root cause of all the pain and suffering we experience in this world.  Eliminate it and you are free.

There is, in fact, no greater realization than the following.  It reads, "I am whole and complete, connected to my source and one with all of life."  This is the ultimate understanding.  It means the end of suffering, in all its many forms, and a return to peace and unreasonable happiness.

"There are only two kinds of experiences in life, those that are easily enjoyed and those we learn and grow from."

Peace,
